Portland, OR: Keepin’ It Weird
Portland, Oregon, holds a special place in my heart. With my aunt and a few friends living there, and fond memories from college just an hour away, it’s a city I’ve had the pleasure of visiting many times. Whether you’re into quirky bookstores, scenic views, or amazing food, Portland has something for everyone.
One of the best parts of Portland is its bridges. From the Steel Bridge to the Hawthorne Bridge, these architectural beauties span the Willamette River and give you fantastic views of the city and the surrounding mountains.

The Pearl District is where art, culture, and great food come together. Stroll through its cobblestone streets, explore galleries, and check out the trendy shops. 23rd Street is another area you’ll want to explore, lined with cafes, boutiques, and local eateries that perfectly capture the Portland vibe.
A unique experience in Portland is a ride up to OHSU (Oregon Health & Science University). The Portland Aerial Tram, which feels like a gondola ride, takes you up to the top for stunning panoramic views of the city, Mount Hood, and the surrounding rivers. It’s definitely worth a ride if you’re looking for some great photos!
Powell’s Books is a must-visit for any book lover. As the largest independent bookstore in the world, it’s easy to get lost in its many rooms filled with books, new and used. It’s a bibliophile’s paradise, and I always find something new to take home when I’m in the area.
If you love animals or just need a relaxing afternoon outdoors, the Oregon Zoo is a great spot. Located in Washington Park, it’s home to a wide variety of animals, and it’s nestled in a lush, green setting that makes the zoo feel more like an adventure in nature.

For a tranquil, beautiful experience, head to the Japanese Rose Garden, also in Washington Park. This garden is a peaceful retreat, offering stunning views and an immersive, serene atmosphere. It’s the perfect spot for a quiet afternoon walk.
Beyond the city itself, Portland is close to some incredible natural wonders. A short drive will take you to Multnomah Falls, one of the most famous waterfalls in the region. If you’re up for more coastal adventures, head out to Astoria or Seaside, where you can experience the beauty of the Oregon Coast with its sandy beaches and charming coastal towns.
